Fertility Treatment

Any couple who have had unprotected intercourse for a year and are still unable to conceive should arrange to be seen by a specialist doctor.

During the first consult we will go through your detailed medical history and physical examination. This will involve a Pap smear, ultrasound scan, blood tests and arrange for a sperm test for your husband. It is better if your husband accompanies you on your first visit.

After the results of the tests are known, the next step would be to undergo laparoscopy which is usually done as a day surgery. This is an excellent tool which may be considered essential in the investigation of infertile couples. We can visualize the female reproductive organs and look for tubal blockage. Fibroids and cysts can be removed at the same time.

With the findings, we will explain to you the possible causes of our inability to conceive and the ensuing treatments involved. This is can be in the form of follicular tracking and timing of intercourse. We can also perform intra-uterine insemination. Assisted reproduction e.g. IVF will have to be referred to the tertiary centers.

Birth Control /

STERILIZATION

You can consult us on the various forms of birth control or contraception. We will inform you of the latest developments in the field of birth control.

After the initial consultation and examination, we will discuss with you the various types of contraception available and will tailor the correct form based on your needs and lifestyles.

The various forms of contraception include pills, injectables, condoms, IUCD and implants. Emergency contraception has to be taken within 24 to 48 hours after intercourse for it to be effective.

Well Women Screening

We provide screening for the health conscious female. The basic tests will include Pap smears, ultrasound scans and blood tests, if required. Mammograms will have to be done at the radiology centers. We will advise you accordingly if further treatment is required based on the results.

PAP SMEARS

Pap smears are a good screening tool for cervical cancer . We also do HPV ( human papilloma virus screening ) for those at risk . Early detection of cancers will result in prompt treatment and also improved outcome .

ULTRASOUND

Screening ultrasound of the female reproductive organs can detect fibroids or ovarian cysts . Fibroids arise from the uterus and typically cause pain or heavy menses . They can also be a cause of failure to conceive in couples . Ovarian cysts as the name suggests arise from the ovaries . Cysts an be benign or malignant . An ultrasound is basically a screening tool . Further evaluation is needed by doing a CT or MRI scan if the ultrasound scan reveals a cyst that may be suspicious of malignancy .

Termination of Pregnancy (Abortion)

The cost of the procedure will depend on the method and the gestation .

Our clinic provides outpatient abortion services for up to 12 weeks of pregnancy.

We strive to provide a confidential and discreet environment to those seeking treatment for termination of pregnancy.

We are now able to provide medical termination of pregnancy . The best results are those less than 7 weeks of pregnancy

Our patients vary in ages and come from all lifestyles. We recognize that you have a common bond: an unwanted pregnancy. You can be assured of strict confidentiality and the procedure will be performed by a trained doctor. We respect your right to choose and counselling will be done by a trained and supportive counselor.

During the first consultation, we will determine the age of the pregnancy and go through with you the procedure, the risks and complications of the procedure. You will be provided with a pre-abortion counselling by the doctor/a trained counselor . You will have to wait for at least 48 hours before we can perform the procedure. This is to give you time to contemplate on your pregnancy.

In Singapore, counseling is mandatory for all pregnant women seeking treatment for termination of pregnancy.

Unmarried girls below 16 years of age will be referred to the Health Promotion Board Counselling Centre for pre-aborton counselling.

For pregnancies of 12 weeks gestation and less, the procedure will be performed by vacuum aspiration.

The patient will have to fast for at least 4 hours and sedation will be given as anesthesia. This is usually sufficient in the majority of patients. The patient will be monitored after the procedure and should be able to go back 2 to 3 hours after the procedure. Sedation will be given by a specialist anesthetist so there will be 2 doctors looking after you .

Patients will undergo post abortion counseling after the procedure. We will require that the patients come back for review a week later to check that everything is all well.

For medical termination there are two sets of pills you have to take . The first set is RU486 which has to taken in front of the nurse . The pills are to stop the embryo from growing . The next day you will have to take another set of pills called Cytotech . This will cause expulsion of the embryo . You will start bleeding then and will  experience pain . Bleeding in some cases can last for up to two weeks . A small percentage of patients may have an incomplete abortion which may require a minor procedure to remove the remnants . We will see you 2 weeks after taking the medicine and do a blood test to check if the medical termination was successful .

Fibroids and Cysts

Fibroids and cysts are the two most common gynaecological conditions affecting our women today. Treatment will depend on the size of the tumor, consistency, site, symptoms and the desire for future child bearing. Surgery is indicated in the majority of cases. Most of the surgery can be done by key hole or by laparoscopic surgery .

Laparoscopic Surgery

Surgeries for gynaecological issues used to be performed the conventional way, requiring large surgical incisions. Advances in medicine have made it possible for us to perform such surgeries through small key hole incisions. We can assess if your surgery is deemed suitable to be done in this manner.

Treatment of Menstrual Abnormalities

Irregular or painful menses can be treatable. Treatment will depend on the cause of the problem.

Treatment of Incontinence

In most cases the condition is caused by loss of pelvic muscle strength. Women who suffer from this condition, need not continue to put up with the embarrassment and the inconvenience the condition presents them. We can help address this through a simple surgical procedure using Tension Vagina Tape (TVT). It is a day surgery and does not require any hospitalisation.

Menopause Treatment

The menopause is characterized by the cessation of periods. In addition, the patient may suffer from menopause symptoms and in the long term, osteoporosis. After the consultation, we may decide if you need any medication for the menopause.

Hormone therapy may be indicated in some cases. Recently, hormone replacement therapy has come under a bad light due to recent publications. However, there are other forms of therapy which will help patients in the management of their menopause. For instance, presently there is hormone like preparations without the side effects of hormones.
